Tree-Toad tragedy (for troy)
(fantasy on a traditional tongue twister)
A tree toad loved a she-toad
who lived up in a tree.
He was a two-toed tree toad
but a three-toed toad was she.
The two-toed toad was a tawny toad;
the she-toad gleaming green.
The tawny toad loved the way she glowed
in tones he’d never seen.
The two-toed tree toad tried to win
the three-toed she-toad's heart
because a torment deep within
was tearing his apart,
for the two-toed tree toad loved the ground
that the three-toed tree toad trod.
He croaked, “Oh she-toad, make the sound
that gives this toad the nod.
This tried, this true, this two-toed toad
has eyes for only you.
So tell this tawny two-toed toad
just what this toad must do!”
But the two-toed tree toad tried in vain.
He couldn't please her whim.
From her tree toad bower
with her three-toed power
the she-toad vetoed him.
